Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic invites community to
Share the Power of a Wish® this holiday season
Bethesda, MD (October 10, 2013) – This holiday season, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is striving to grant heartfelt wishes to 200 local children facing life-threatening medical conditions in the Mid-Atlantic region during its annual Season of Wishes®
campaign, which runs from November 1 through the end of the year. With the help of individuals and community partners, the organization hopes to raise funds and frequent flier miles to bring hope, strength and joy to local children like Rylie.
Seven-year-old Rylie from Silver Spring, MD, wished to go on a cruise with her family. Rylie has been battling lymphoid leukemia and her wish brought a welcome respite from medical treatments and hospitals to her whole family. Rylie is just one of the hundreds of local wish children served by Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic each year. But for every wish granted, there is at least one other child waiting. Members of the community can help meet the pressing need to grant these wishes by supporting the Season of Wishes effort.
There are many engagement opportunities for the campaign. Some ways to help include:
- Adopt-A-Wish® of a local child.
- Sign up to be a seasonal fundraising partner.
- Create or host a fundraiser or promotion.
- Sell Make-A-Wish stars or wristbands.
- Donate a cash contribution.
- Shop or dine at Season of Wishes partners.
- Donate frequent flier miles.
Like Rylie’s wish, the vast majority of wishes involve air travel. Including airfare, the average cost of a wish in the Mid-Atlantic region is $7500. The public can significantly affect wishes by donating frequent flier miles.
Most importantly, the impact of these wishes will extend far beyond the holiday season. As Rylie’s mother Tracie expressed, “[The wish experience] is truly a gift like no other and there are not enough words to express how thankful we are and how much fun we all had.”
