Fourteen-year-old Ann from Manchester, MD, has always maintained an active imagination. Ann has a passion for creativity, which is why she has loved playing with LEGOs from a young age. Although Ann also enjoys riding her bike, horseback riding and playing video games in her free time, she loves that with LEGOs, she can create anything her heart desires. When Ann was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, her inventive spirit helped to get her through many months of doctor appointments and chemotherapy treatments. Upon learning she would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish®
Mid-Atlantic, she knew immediately what her wish would be – to go to LEGOLand in California.
Ann was not only excited to go to LEGOLand, but she also couldn’t wait to ride in an airplane for the first time. Aside from building with LEGOs, Ann’s favorite part of her wish trip was the behind-the-scenes tour of the workshop. She even got to build a LEGO version of herself and put it anywhere in Miniland she wanted! While in California, Ann and her family also enjoyed spending time with her aunt who lives nearby.
Upon returning from their trip, Ann’s mom shared, “We all had a wonderful time! The real value of the trip for Ann lay not so much in the destination but in the idea that there are so many nice people in the world who care about her and are willing to give of themselves to make children like her happy.” Granting wishes like Ann’s provides both sick children and their families with hope, strength and joy when they need it most.
