Twelve-year-old Natasha from Germantown, MD, has always loved the outdoors. When she was diagnosed with a hematologic disorder, Natasha’s world was changed. Due to her medical condition, she was unable to play outside with her friends, go to school or enjoy summer vacation with her family. Although Natasha enjoys watching movies and doing arts and crafts in her free time, she hoped for a day when she could enjoy the outdoors again with her friends and family. When Natasha found out she would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish®
Mid-Atlantic, she wished to go to Bora Bora.
Natasha was ecstatic when her wish to go to Bora Bora with her family was scheduled. She was diligent about researching the location before choosing her wish and was excited to swim, visit the beach and go snorkeling. She was even hoping to visit the turtle sanctuary! After researching Bora Bora, Natasha learned that 80% of the world’s fish live in Polynesia. She couldn’t wait to snorkel and see all of the underwater wildlife that the tropical destination had to offer.
Natasha’s wish gave back a piece of her childhood that her medical condition had taken away. It allowed her to enjoy a tropical vacation with her family and participate in outdoor activities that she missed due to treatment. Wishes like Natasha’s provide children battling life-threatening medical conditions with hope, strength and joy.
