Phenon, from Silver Spring, MD, is a typical 14-year-old girl. She loves Harry Potter, animals, Thai food and most of all, playing instruments and singing.
Unlike most fourteen-year-olds, however, Phenon was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which meant that she would endure many hospital visits and treatments. When brainstorming her one true wish, Phenon knew that she wanted to do something fun and relaxing that would allow her to take her mind off of her illness. After careful consideration, she decided that a Royal Caribbean cruise with her family was the perfect wish for her!
Phenon and her family started their voyage with a flight into New Orleans, where they boarded the ship that they would call home for the next week. They spent their time on board participating in the ship's activities and attending many, many performances. Phenon received VIP seating, got to meet some of the performers, and was even given a private back stage tour! Off the ship, the family took part in some wild excursions-- including swimming with dolphins, visiting a sea turtle sanctuary, horseback riding, and touring Mayan ruins.
The special attention that Phenon received on the ship and the amazing adventures that she participated in off it made the trip a unique experience, but it was her family's companionship that made it truly incredible. Phenon's om described the cruise as the perfect escape. "The trip was truly marvelous," she said. "The time we got to spend together was unparalleled."
