Fourteen-year-old Colton grew up surrounded by land in Marshall, VA. Ever since he was a little boy, he loved to participate in outdoor activities with his brother, like flying remote-controlled airplanes, fishing and building forts. Colton’s life changed abruptly in October of 2016, however, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Suddenly, he needed to undergo treatments that prevented him from going to school or participating in his favorite outdoor activities.
After his diagnosis, Colton was referred to Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, and he began to think about a wish that would allow him to get back in touch with the outdoors. Colton wished to have a camper so that he could travel around and make the most of the beautiful outdoors around him.
On the day that Colton’s camper arrived, he enjoyed a big party to celebrate his wish come true. Colton was thrilled to show off his new camper to his family and friends, and he shared that he was excited to retreat to his camper in the future as a place to sleep and complete his schoolwork.
Colton’s wish to have a camper provided him with hope during a difficult time in his life, and it will continue to bring him joy in the years to come as he uses his camper again and again. A wish come true can transform a child’s life and provide them with hope, strength and joy when they need it most.
