Eight-year-old Neo from Washington, DC, loves spending time outside. However, in 2010, Neo was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called retinoblastoma which resulted in multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and ultimately, the removal of one of his eyes. Due to his limited sight, going to the public playground could prove difficult for Neo as his ability to navigate was restricted. When Neo learned he would be receiving his one true wish from Make-A-Wish®
Mid-Atlantic, he wished to have his very own playset in his backyard.
When the time for Neo’s wish arrived, he couldn’t wait to have his own playset that he could safely navigate in his backyard. He was thrilled to find that his playset was brightly colored and complete with a rock wall, bouncy ball and more. After putting on a brave face through his extensive and demanding medical condition and treatment methods, Neo finally had something to look forward to that put a smile on his face.
Neo’s wish gave him the opportunity to safely enjoy his favorite activities in the comfort of his own backyard. Granting wishes like Neo’s provides children fighting life-threatening medical conditions with hope, strength and joy when they need it most.
