Tyler from Sykesville, MD, has always had a passion for music – especially the bass guitar. While undergoing treatment for cancer, Tyler’s music teacher Anthony Wellington mentored and helped Tyler realize how important music was to his recovery.
When Tyler learned that he would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, he wished to have a custom bass guitar!
To ready himself for his new guitar, Tyler dedicated himself to practicing so he would sound like a pro when the guitar arrived. His hard work and dedication to the bass guitar struck a chord inside. He decided then to pursue a music education in college
One week later, Tyler had is guitar and was off to college to study Music Performance.
Tyler is specializing in jazz and classical music at Middle Tennessee State University, where he hopes to continue playing music after he graduates. For Tyler, school is “not for the degree – it’s for the education.” He plays his bass guitar “for hours every day” and concedes it’s “the first thing I do every day.” Tyler also uses his bass guitar when he plays with his band, and he credits his wish experience for keeping him going and helping him follow his passion for music.
Tyler’s love and dedication to music combined with his wish helped him realize how important music was to his life. “I’m doing exactly what I want to be doing,” said Tyler.
Wishes like Tyler’s enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
