Five-year-old Eden from Upper Marlboro, MD loves all things girly. She adores the color pink and her favorite princess is Cinderella. But what Eden loves most of all are unicorns! When Eden was in the hospital bravely battling brain cancer, her dream of meeting a real unicorn helped distract her from countless medical procedures and treatments. Upon finding out she would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, Eden knew her one-true-wish was to meet and ride a real unicorn.
Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic wanted to make Eden’s wish as special as possible for both her and her family. Eden’s day began with a stop at FOX5 DC where she was transformed into a princess. At FOX5, Eden had a tea party with her family while undergoing a princess makeover. But the fun was only beginning! Eden also received her first clue, which began a fairytale quest throughout Washington, DC in search of her unicorn.
Throughout the day, Eden retrieved clues from various fairytale-themed stops throughout DC, including The Washington Ballet, Hyatt Regency Washington, National Museum of American History and Smithsonian Castle. Eden even made a stop at the White House where she was greeted by the first dogs, Sunny and Bo! Throughout her quest, Eden befriended Goldilocks and the Three Bears, friends from the Wizard of Oz and Rapunzel! Each new friend provided her with another clue, which ultimately led her to the Verizon Center and her unicorn.
Eden was overjoyed upon finally meeting her unicorn. Both she and her older sister, Sade, had a chance to ride the unicorn in front of a cheering crowd. Eden even mentioned she wanted to take the unicorn to an enchanted forest! Granting wishes like Eden’s helps create happy memories during a difficult time and enriches the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
