Diagnosed with cancer in infancy, six-year-old Gracie from New Market, Maryland has always wanted to meet Cinderella. Gracie had no idea of what was in store for her when she told Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic what she wanted to wish for – to meet her favorite princess Cinderella. “The wish was magical right from the start,” said Gracie’s mom. “We walked out of the house and there was a limousine waiting to take us to the airport.” Gracie had never ridden in a limousine before, never flown on an airplane and never even been on a family vacation because of her illness. “The 7-day vacation was the longest consecutive time we have spent together as a family,” remarked Gracie’s mom.
Gracie and her family stayed in a magical place called Give Kids The World Village® where they had a two-bedroom house all to themselves. Gracie was treated like royalty everywhere she went.
Dressed up in her best princess attire, Gracie was first greeted by Sleeping Beauty and then Belle. Belle took her hand and led her over to meet Cinderella. To Gracie’s delight, instead of just saying a quick hello, Cinderella stopped to chat with her! She gave Gracie a big kiss leaving behind a lipstick kiss on Gracie’s forehead. Gracie couldn't have been more thrilled – she also had lunch with the princesses!
The magic did not stop there. Gracie received a Make-A-Wish® button which had a magic of its own. The family was ushered to the front of every line, characters throughout the park made an extra effort to stop, talk to and hug the family, and pictures were taken as the family made its way around the park. “Memories and pictures are the ultimate gift to me,” remarked Gracie’s mother. “I can’t wait to make a scrapbook and show it to the rest of the family.”
The memories mounted as Gracie got to sing on stage during “Village Idol” night at Give Kids The World and experience her first roller coaster ride on Thunder Mountain. One of Gracie’s favorite parts was going to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where she received a full makeover.
