Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is granting Cameryn’s wish by sending her family on an adventure to Walt Disney World Resort®. Cameryn loves reading the Disney story collection and watching Disney’s Frozen and Tinker Bell, and is so excited to enjoy the park with her twin sister and brothers. To commemorate both Cameryn’s wish and World Wish Day, the celebration will include a limo arrival and a party at the departure gate with cheering fans, signs and goodies. The send-off party attendees will have VIP access to the gate with the help of Southwest Airlines and TSA.
World Wish Day marks the anniversary of the first wish, granted in 1980 to a little
boy named Chris Greicius, who wished to be a police officer for a day. This wish sparked the
founding of the global phenomenon that became Make-A-Wish. Every year on April 29th,
this day is celebrated with wishes granted all over the world. Cameryn’s wish is one of hundreds of wishes the Mid-Atlantic chapter will grant this year to help spread hope, strength and joy to local children battling life-threatening illnesses.
The public has the opportunity to directly impact travel wishes by donating frequent flier miles at www.midatlantic.wish.org. Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic needs over 82 million air miles to provide travel for local wish kids and their families this year. On average more than 2.1 million miles are needed for a family of four to travel domestically.
*To cover the story live: TSA will dedicate a special security line to Cameryn, her family and the rest of the party, as well as gate passes for those who wish to accompany them to the departure gate. Arrangements for gate passes will need to be made in advance, for security purposes.
About Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic serves children who reside in central and southern Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Founded in 1983, the organization has granted more than 8,300 wishes in the Mid-Atlantic region since its inception. This year alone, 840 local children are expected to be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. However, for every wish granted, at least two more local children are waiting. The community has the opportunity to make an impact today by helping Make-A-Wish to reach hundreds of kids whose wishes would go otherwise go unanswered this year.
