When asked about his favorite things, 16-year-old Zach from Edgewater, MD will say he loves the beach, puppies and family. He will also say he loves playing basketball and just being outside in general. After being diagnosed with a neurological condition, his childhood transitioned from one spent outdoors to one spent in hospital beds and treatment centers. When Zach discovered that Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic would be granting his one true wish, he knew he wanted to combine all of his passions into one powerful experience. He wished to go to Turks and Caicos and be a volunteer at the Potcake Place K-9 Rescue to combine his loves for his family, the beach and puppies!
Zach and his family enjoyed bright sunshine throughout the wish trip! Zach enjoyed relaxing on the beach with his family, snorkeling and attending music and arts events at their hotel at night. The best part of the trip was volunteering at Potcake Place. Zach had the opportunity to play with puppies on the beach, help with clean up around the shelter and pitch in to keep the K-9 rescue center running smoothly.
Zach's wish exemplifies the power that a wish has to transform a child’s life from one characterized by frequent medical treatments to one defined by hope. Zach and his family were extremely grateful for their experiences in Turks and Caicos, and they loved spending quality family time together.
