Peyton loves animals and the outdoors. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through a grueling treatment regimen, Peyton’s dream of exploring nature and wildlife never faltered. The 12-year-old from Poolesville, MD actually used her time in treatment to plan for her future of discovering and exploring. When Peyton learned that Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic would be granting her one true wish to explore the wildlife in Australia, she was thrilled. She immersed herself in research on the best places to explore animals and natural beauty in Australia, and she could not wait for the wish trip!
Australia offered so many opportunities for Peyton to learn and explore. She enjoyed visiting the beautiful beaches, zip lining through the forest and visiting a zoo where she was able to meet animals up close, including holding and snuggling a koala! The wish trip offered the perfect balance between exciting and high-adrenaline excursions and relaxing down time.
Peyton and her family were elated to spend such meaningful time together after the difficult times they endured during Peyton’s treatment. She reported that one of her favorite parts of the wish trip was seeing fish that you can’t see anywhere else in the world and learning about the Australian sea life from a marine biologist. After Peyton’s wish was granted, she shared, “The best part of the whole trip was being able to spend time with my brother and sisters and mom and dad.”
