Five-year-old Conlan from Parkville, MD, is a typical young boy. He enjoys building with LEGOs, playing tag and he especially loves dressing up like a pirate. When Conlan was diagnosed with renal cancer, it became difficult for him to keep up with many of the same activities as his friends. Upon learning Make-A-Wish®
Mid-Atlantic would be granting his one true wish, Conlan immediately wished to meet his favorite character, Captain Hook!
Conlan always harbored a fascination for pirates, and who was a better pirate than Captain Hook from his favorite movie, Peter Pan? In addition to meeting his favorite pirate, Conlan was looking forward to exploring the Orlando theme parks and going swimming wish his family! His wish ended up being even better than he had expected. Conlan had a blast not only meeting his favorite characters but also dressing up as a pirate himself!
Conlan’s wish gave him something to look forward to during a time filled with doctor appointments, hospital visits and chemotherapy treatments and allowed him to enjoy feeling like a kid again. Granting wishes like Conlan’s provides hope, strength and joy to both children with life-threatening medical conditions and their families when they need it most.
