The DC community is encouraged to join Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic wish kids, friends, families and supporters to help grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions. Local wish kid team captains will be leading the efforts at this community event.
Who: Wish kids, their families, and other friends and supporters of Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic
When: Sunday, April 10, 2016
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Constitution Avenue & 17th Street, NW, Washington, DC
What: Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic’s 2016 Walk For Wishes is a community-wide celebration and effort to grant wishes for local children with life-threatening medical conditions. Walkers of all ages will come together at the National Mall to enjoy the three mile walk and ongoing festivities including music, face painting, balloon art and more with the backdrop of the Capitol and monuments. Walk For Wishes is an official participating event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Why: To raise awareness and funds supporting Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic’s efforts to serve local children. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic relies on community support to grant wishes. However, 840 local children are expected to be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition this year alone – and for each wish granted, at least two more local children are waiting for a wish. This local organization needs the community’s support to close the gap between children who are eligible for a wish this year and those who receive one.
About Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic
Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic serves children who reside in central and southern Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and northern Virginia. Founded in 1983, the Mid-Atlantic chapter has granted more than 8,500 wishes in the Mid-Atlantic region since its inception. Wish kids face any number of life-threatening medical conditions such as cancer, pediatric AIDS, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchene’s muscular dystrophy, kidney and heart disease. This year alone, 840 local children are expected to be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. However, for every wish granted, at least two more local children are waiting. The community has the opportunity to make an impact today by helping Make-A-Wish to reach hundreds of kids whose wishes would go otherwise go unanswered this year.
