Five-year-old Kaheem from Owings Mills, MD, is a huge superhero fan. Like most boys his age, he enjoys playing with toys, riding his bike and skateboarding in his free time. However, what Kaheem loves most of all are superheroes! Kaheem is currently battling cancer, and his favorite superhero movies and toys have helped to distract him from countless medical procedures and treatments. Upon finding out he would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic, Kaheem knew exactly what to wish for – to be a superhero and help people.
Prior to his wish day, Kaheem received a letter from the Official Superhero Council calling on him to help save the spirit of DC. Kaheem’s wish day began with a stop at FOX5 DC, where he was transformed into Super Kaheem! After drinking his superhero elixir, Kaheem tried on his custom costume. But Super Kaheem’s day was only beginning! Kaheem also received his first mission, which began his superhero quest throughout Washington, DC, and his battle for good.
Throughout the day, Kaheem received clues which led him on various superhero missions throughout DC, including to the Capital Wheel, the US Capitol, the National Theatre and the Newseum. With the help of everyday heroes like local first responders, Kaheem saved Santa from the top of the Capital Wheel, completed a top secret mission at the US Capitol to find a missing flag, stopped the Grinch from stealing presents at the National Theatre, and untied several DC mascots at the Newseum. Following a busy day of battling for good and saving the city, Kaheem received his very own Super Kaheem action figure.
Kaheem was overjoyed to be Super Kaheem for a day. He even asked, “Mommy, is this a dream?!” Granting wishes like Kaheem’s helps create happy memories during a difficult time and enriches the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
