Nijah loves to dance! The six-year-old from Temple Hills, MD is passionate about ballet, and she often spends time day-dreaming about becoming a ballerina. This dream has carried Nijah through some tough times. At just four years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia, which meant that she had to spend many days dealing with the side effects of her treatments. When Nijah learned that Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic would be granting her one true wish to be a ballerina, she finally felt like she had something to look forward to again.
On Nijah’s wish day, she was thrilled to join the Washington Ballet for a performance at THEARC DC. She arrived at her performance in true VIP fashion, rolling up in a limousine and being ushered backstage to get ready for her dance. Nijah was excited to see that she had a costume matching the other dancers and was over the moon to receive a signed ballet slipper from the other ballerinas. When the time came to perform on stage, Nijah refused to let stage fright stop her from having a great time. She had a blast dancing to her favorite songs from Frozen and Trolls, and she celebrated with a post-show pizza party with all of her family and friends.
Nijah’s wish come true gave her a chance to shine in the spotlight and to feel like a star. The wish empowered her by returning her sense of confidence, showing her that she can achieve anything that she sets her mind to.
