Eleven-year-old Lucas from Silver Spring, MD, has always had a passion for adventure. When Lucas was diagnosed with a progressive muscle disease, it took a toll on his ability to explore as much as he would like. In his free time, Lucas enjoys playing outside, playing video games, reading and building with LEGOS. However, Lucas dreamed of a time when he would be able to travel the world. When Lucas found out that Make-A-Wish®
Mid-Atlantic would be granting his one true wish, he wished to go to Thailand.
Lucas has always loved Thai cuisine and had dreamed of visiting the country ever since learning about it in a documentary. During his wish trip, Lucas was most excited to eat as much Thai food as possible as well as swimming and visiting the beach. Upon arriving in Thailand, his wish trip was even more than he had hoped. Lucas enjoyed visiting the Floating Market, playing with elephants and going on an overnight train ride like a real backpacker.
Lucas’ wish gave him something to focus on other than his medical condition. Granting wishes for kids like Lucas provides hope, strength and joy at a time when they need it most.
