At home in Fairfax, Virginia, seven-year-old Skyler can always be found with a smile on her face.
Despite being diagnosed with leukemia, Skyler is just like many girls her age. She enjoys coloring rainbows, playing with her American Girl dolls, taking care of animals and on rainy days, watching SpongeBob Squarepants. Just two weeks after being diagnosed, Skyler was referred to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic. Skyler immediately knew that a family trip to Hawaii would be absolutely perfect.
Skyler and her family arrived in Honolulu and from the very first day they were off exploring the island. There were many activities on Skyler's "to do" list so they had little time to spare! Their second day in Honolulu was spent at Dolphin Quest, where Skyler and her family were able to meet and interact with some new dolphin friends. On the third day, the family traveled to Paradise Cove, where they enjoyed learning the art of lei-making, took part in a special luau by the ocean, including hula dancing classes, just like the professionals! It was a fun-filled week for the whole family.
After returning home from the beautiful island, Skyler and her family did not just have endless pictures and souvenirs, but also memories that they will share for a lifetime. They were able to escape all the difficulties that comes with Skyler's illness and were able to enjoy their time together as a family.
