Living in quarantine during COVID-19 can be lonely and isolating for anyone, but for children battling critical illnesses, those feelings are nothing new. They spend days, weeks and sometimes even months separated from their friends and family as they go through difficult treatments and hospital visits. Because he has a compromised immune system from his cancer treatments, 9-year-old Alejandro has to be extra careful. He’s forced to stay inside his home in Silver Spring, MD, so he was thrilled to hear Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic wanted to grant him a wish during the trying time. Alejandro immediately knew he wanted to wish to have an online shopping spree so he could buy video games to stay busy during therapy and appointments, clothing for the upcoming summer and new toys to play safely with his brother while they’re at home.
Alejandro couldn’t wait to shop for his new items online! He loved picking out fun clothing for when it gets hot out, as well as some new board games and a remote-control car to keep him busy inside during quarantine. Alejandro even bought scooters for both him and his brother to race around outside in their yard! But the items at the very top of his wish list? A Nintendo Switch and a Playstation. Alejandro passes the time during treatments and hospital stays by playing his favorite game, Fortnite, and will now be able to enjoy that game and more at home during quarantine. All of these new clothes, electronics and toys will bring Alejandro strength and joy throughout his treatments, during quarantine and for years to come!
